Professor Marc Wuyts

Visiting Research Associate

Professor Marc Wuyts has an M.Sc in Mathematical Economics and Econometrics at the University of Louvain (Belgium), a B.Phil in Economics from Oxford University, and a PhD in Economics from The Open University. He is Professor of Quantitative Applied Economics at the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague and has been Visiting Professor of Economics and Development at The Open University since 1992. He also is Research Associate of REPOA (Research on Poverty Alleviation), Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania and is a member of an international team of experts providing technical assistance and capacity building in applied economic research and policy analysis to the research department of the Ministry of Planning and Development) in Maputo, Mozambique (2005 – 2006). In recent years, he has been a member of ad-hoc panels of experts and author / co-author of background papers for the preparation of The Least Developed Countries Report 2004 and 2006.


<p>Marc Wuyts&rsquo; research interests concern the macroeconomics of development and, more specifically, the role social protection and development finance can play in fostering innovation and broad-based productivity growth, particularly within rural economies and societies. Marc Wuyts&rsquo; research has been part of a long-standing collaboration with Economics and DPP and, most recently, with Maureen Mackintosh (Economics) and Joanna Chataway (DPP), he co-edited a special issue for the European Journal of Development Research on the linkage between innovation and poverty reduction in developing countries context, for which he also undertook field research in Mozambique (jointly with Roberto Simonetti, in Economics at the OU).</p>
<p>Marc Wuyts has further been involved in (co-) authoring and (co-) editing various textbooks &ndash; some with The Open University &ndash; on econometrics and data analysis, research methods, and international economy and development policy.</p>
