Sally worked in the NGO sector for 8 years, predominately with an NGO that focused on youth empowerment programmes in Africa and Asia. She spent the last 5 years working in Zambia but has also worked for short periods in India, Nepal, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda. Her first degree was in Business Studies but she recently completed a Masters in Developmebnt Management at Manchester University. Sally is interested in young people, ideas of citizenship, income generation and entrepreneurship and education but also has experience in working with governments, HIV and AIDS, gender and the business side of NGOs, such as fundraising and HR. Overall she is interested in finding ways to link academic research and practice.

Sally's PhD is a Case Studentship, which is an ESRC funded project which brings together organisations with academic institutions. In this case the Co-operative College UK is the organisation who co-sponsor this PhD and they will use the PhD research to inform their work with young people in Co-operatives in Africa.
