Mr Fredrick Ajwang

PhD Research Student

Before joining DPP, I worked with the Dutch based organisation Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH) as a Program Officer in Nairobi Kenya in the Initiatives for Sustainable Landscapes (ISLA) program. Whilst there, I was responsible for overall programme management for IDH programmes in Kenya, supply chain sustainability, private sector and government engagement and offering programme execution support for the Regional IDH Coordinator.  Previously, I worked as a Research Assistant with the African Capacity Building Foundation supporting data management for the Australia Africa Community Engagement Scheme (AACES) Program. I completed my MPhil in International Development at Massey University in New Zealand in February 2013 with a distinction focusing on the use of mobile phone apps by farmers to access markets.

My research interests lie in agriculture, food security and development theories.  My PhD will examine the governance of vegetable export sector in Kenya through the lens of food regime as a critique to food sovereignty.
